When you run Exchange Setup to prepare schema, usually the very next question is, how do I verify schema was updated successfully? Verifying only the values of attributes as mentioned below is not a good verification of Exchange setup completion. This article is intended to only provide reference to attributes and their values.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s start back at Exchange 2003 SP2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

One of the last actions setup \/forestprep<\/strong> in Exchange 2003 is to set objectVersion<\/strong> attribute on Exchange organization container<\/strong> to a value of 6903<\/strong>. You can verify this using ADSIEdit and navigating to Configuration NC<\/strong>, Exchange organization<\/strong> object under services\\Microsoft Exchange node.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, when setup \/domainprep<\/strong> is run, it sets the objectVersion<\/strong> attribute on Microsoft Exchange System Objects<\/strong> container to a value of 6936<\/strong>. You can verify this using ADSIEdit and navigating to Domain NC<\/strong>, Microsoft Exchange System Objects<\/strong> container.<\/p>\n

In Exchange 2007<\/strong>, after successful run of Setup \/PrepareSchema<\/strong> you will find that the attributes mentioned above are not changed! You need to verify the value of rangeUpper<\/strong> attribute of ms-Exch-Schema-Version-Pt<\/strong> object in Schema NC<\/strong>. The value should be 10637<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

It is only when you run Setup \/PrepareAD<\/strong> the objectVersion<\/strong> attribute of Organization container <\/strong>in Configuration NC<\/strong> is updated to a value of 10666<\/strong>. You will also find that objectVersion<\/strong> attribute on Microsoft Exchange System Objects<\/strong> container in Domain NC<\/strong> is set to a value of 10628<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You will also notice that Setup \/PrepareDomain<\/strong> does not have any effect on these attribute values.<\/p>\n

I have not tested anything before Exchange 2003 SP2, however, Exchange Schema Versions wiki page<\/a> does keep tab on all versions as well and is a great reference for more details than just version numbers.<\/p>\n
